A jeep safari lets visitors staying in and around Kemer see Olympos, the Chimaera flames and Ulupınar in a single day in open-top 4x4s. It is a fun, busy outing along dusty forest roads in the Taurus Mountains, complete with water fights between jeeps, and especially popular with groups of friends and families with children.
Typical route of the afternoon tour
- Pickup from hotels in the Kemer area and a short briefing
- Jeep safari on forest roads in the Taurus Mountains
- Ancient Olympos: About an hour of free time; those who don't want to enter the site can swim at Olympos beach.
- Chimaera (Yanartaş): Natural gas flames that have burned among the rocks for thousands of years; they look more impressive as darkness falls.
- Karaburun: Sunset stop
- Ulupınar: Fish or chicken dinner at riverside restaurants
- Return to hotels around 21:30
Daytime versions may be combined with stops such as Göynük Canyon. Vehicles are usually open-top Land Rovers seating 11–14 people.
What's included and what isn't
It varies by operator, but transfers, insurance, a tour leader, the Chimaera entrance fee and dinner in Ulupınar are usually included. The Olympos archaeological site ticket and drinks are usually not. Ask about each item when booking.
Note for visitors staying in Olympos and Çıralı
This tour's stops are already on your doorstep. If you are staying in Olympos or Çıralı, it is much easier to visit the Chimaera, Ancient Olympos and Ulupınar on your own, at your own pace. The jeep safari mainly makes sense if you are based around Kemer and want to see the area in one day.
Visitors' tips
- Don't wear your favourite clothes: it gets dusty and you will get soaked in the water fights. Keep your phone and camera in a waterproof bag.
- The path up to the Chimaera is rocky and you'll come down in the dark; wear closed shoes and bring a torch or head torch, as a phone light may not be enough.
- Wear your swimsuit underneath for the swim stop at Olympos.
